Activities meet from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m.

Students must be off campus by 4:30 p.m.

Clubs begin the week of January 13th and end the week of May 5th

No after-school activities will be held the weeks of March 10th (Parent/Teacher Confs) and March 17th (Spring Break)

Tuesday Activities

7th Grade Jazz Band The 7th Grade Jazz Band is a student ensemble committed to learning and performing jazz. We are looking for students who play any of the following instruments: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, or drum set. This ensemble usually performs 2 concerts during the school year. Students who would like to join this group should see Mrs. Tokos in Rm. 125 to pick up the audition music. (Mrs. Tokos, Room 125) |

Dungeons & Dragons: An Introduction This section is for students who have never played or have very little experience with playing Dungeons and Dragons. In this session, students will engage in the following: learning the mechanics of Dungeons and Dragons (stats, how to roll, identify dice), Character Creation (race, class, background, alignment, equipment, ability scores, skills, spells, attacks), Character Image creation (visual representation Party/Guild creation), Role for Shoes (students will practice the aspects of role-playing here before we start an actual campaign). Students will engage in an actual campaign created by the club facilitators. This section of Dungeons and Dragons will be able to accommodate 20-25 students. (Mr. Ward & Ms. Hobold, Room 012) |

GSA - Gender and Sexualities Alliance GSA is a group for LGBTQ+ students and their friends. The club strives to create a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ students and a place for kids to find community and make friends. (Mr. Norman, Room 215) |

Youth2Lead Youth2Lead is an after-school club where students unite to tackle community challenges. Together, they choose meaningful issues within their communities, gather and analyze survey data, create a comprehensive solution, and promote their solution through advocacy and service projects. We are looking for 10 students who want to be change makers in their community. (Mrs. Schroeder, Room 216) |

Archery (6th Grade) Students will learn how to shoot bows and arrows. Students will also participate in various target activities such as apple shooting. Model UN Students will learn about human rights, use their problem solving, communication and collaboration skills, how the UN works, participate in a mock Model UN General Assembly in the spring, research a country's culture, government, and issues that affect your country, region or world, and create a resolution to solve the problem. (Mr. McGinnis, Room 211) |

Advanced Choir The Advanced Choir club is for students who are enrolled in the Advanced Choir class. It will be used as a means of additional practices, solo work (voice lesson), and community building amongst the students and the director. (Mr. Carodine, Room 235) |

Best Buddies Best Buddies is an international organization that encourages friendships between individuals of all abilities. We help support Special Olympics/Unified Sports, plan events for students of all abilities, raise ability awareness, and participate in the annual St. Louis Area Friendship Walk. (Mrs. Walsh & Mr. McGinnis, Room 211) |

Book Battle Book Battle is a competition club in which students compete against each other using their understanding of the assigned Book Battle books. Students will meet weekly on Wednesday to read, discuss, and practice trivia about the 20 books. Sponsors also read the books and develop the practice questions. There is no limit to the amount of kids that can join. We love to read, eat snacks, and have fun! (Mrs. Goosen & Mrs. Haddock, Library) |

Creative Writing Club Creative Writing Club is a club for students who want to sharpen their creative writing skills (short story, screenplays, poetry, writing exercises, etc.). Students will write, workshop, share their work. (Mr. Gasparovic, Room 224) |

Hixson String Ensemble This is an extracurricular string orchestra group for students who play violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students must have at least 1 year of performing experience on their instrument. We will perform music that is slightly more challenging music of student choice so we can learn different key and time signatures. You do not have to be in orchestra class during the school day to join, but if you are not, lessons outside of school are preferred. Our group will perform at the Holiday House Tour on December 7 and at the Fine Arts Festival on April 30. (Mrs. Grubb, Room 126) |

Wind Ensemble The Wind Ensemble is an advanced-level student ensemble committed to learning and performing band music. We are looking for students who play any of the following instruments: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, or percussion. This ensemble usually performs 2 concerts during the school year. Students who would like to join this group should see Mr. Stevison/Mrs. Tokos in Rm. 125. to pick up the audition music. Board Games Club Join us for classic board games, card games, party games, and puzzles. Play one of the many provided games or bring your own favorites to share with others. Want to learn how to play new games and make friends along the way? This is the club for you. (Mr. Cahn, Room 226) |

Dungeons & Dragons: Advanced Campaign This section of Dungeons and Dragons is only for students who are experienced Dungeons and Dragons players as they will be leading the campaign. As facilitators we will help manage the campaign, help players manage characters, and create visual aids and manipulatives. This section will accommodate 10-12 students. Hixson Student Council The HSC will focus on the culture and climate here at Hixson. Our goal is to empower student voices within the workings of our school, to make Hixson a better place for all students! The HX STUCO will be application-only, and only open to 7th and 8th grade students first semester. 6th grade students may apply for second semester. Applications can be picked up from Ms. Camden (Rm 209) or Ms. O'Brien (Rm 107). |

Yearbook Want to be a part of recording the history of Hixson? We are looking for a few reliable, hard working students for the yearbook staff. Space is very limited and good attendance is necessary.
