School counseling vs. Outside therapist

Is a school counseling session with the school counselor the same as with an outside therapist?

Answer:  No. School Counselors meet with students on an individual basis to deal with crisis management and problem-solving.  An outside therapist will provide more intensive, individualized, and ongoing therapy. School Counseling conversations are confidential between the counselor and student unless there is a safety concern to break that confidentiality.
